“How I Was Dis0wned By My Father” – Hilda Baci (Video)

In a recent interview on Taymesan Emmanuel’s ‘Tea with Tay’ program, Hilda Baci, the celebrated chef who holds a Guinness World Record, opened up about a painful chapter in her life.

She discussed the strained relationship with her father, Effiong Bassey Edem, and his unexpected departure from her life, which had a profound impact on her and her older brother, Gabriel, who were on the verge of completing their undergraduate studies.

Hilda revealed, “For me, I will say one of the biggest issues was when he abandoned me. He did not abandon me from the onset; I think that he was present for us to some extent. But when it came dawn on me, was when my father and mom had issues. It was more profound on me because I was in 300 level second semester in University.”

She recalled a pivotal moment during her matriculation day when she called her father to discuss her school expenses. To her shock, he responded by saying, “Who’s your dad?,” essentially disowning her over the phone. This was a moment that left her utterly bewildered, and she later realized that her father’s actions were far from a mere jest.

Hilda had always received support from her father throughout her academic journey, from nursery to secondary school, and the early years of her tertiary education. However, his abrupt withdrawal of financial assistance and upkeep allowance marked a significant turning point in their relationship.
