“Mercy Chinwo charges N10m to perform in churches” – Rev. Fr. Oluoma Criticizes Gospel Singers

Rev. Fr. Chinenye Oluoma, an Abuja Archdiocese Catholic priest, has admonished gospel artists who demand large fees to perform in churches.

The question of whether church musicians or gospel artists should be compensated for their services has existed since the dawn of time.

While many clerics believe that gospel performers should not charge admission because what they do is God’s work, gospel musicians argue that because songwriting and rehearsing are time-consuming tasks that must be completed in order for performances to be flawless, they, too, deserve to be compensated fairly. Pastors are paid to preach in various civilizations.

During a recent lecture, Fr. Oluoma lamented how expensive religious service has become.

Using Mercy Chinwo as an example, the clergyman stated in a viral video that the gospel singer charges N10 million as a performance fee at churches.

His own words;

“We have made religious worship expensive. If I have to bring Mercy Chinwo to come here and sing, how much will I pay? She might charge 10 million naira. Then I will have to collect the money from church members to pay her.

These are the tragedies we have brought into the church; an artiste will come to the church to minister for 10 million or 5 million, that’s much. I’m not against paying her, you must pay her because you invited her”.
